Book Review: Bible Basics, A Baby Believer Counting Primer

Book Review:  Bible Basics by Danielle Hitchen

If you know me well, you know I like children.

If you know me better, you know I like books.

When a good children’s book that I really enjoy comes my way, I keep it in my kids’ library forever.

Recently I was able to get a copy of a new book by Danielle Hitchen called Bible Basics, A Baby Believer Counting Primer.  This one I will have around in our family library for a very long time!

The book serves several purposes that I can use with my small boys during reading time.

First, this book is laid out nicely in 10 lessons.  It has ten thick board pages, each with the lesson number placed in the top corner of the left page.  It easily reminds my boys of their numbers and how far we are into the book…and how much longer we have to go until we get to the end.

Secondly,   the right side of each section is beautifully crafted to visualize each biblical truth.  While on the left there is more detailed information of the same subject.

For example:  In the 8th lesson the author is teaching about the Beatitudes.  On the left side of the book, the page contains the number eight and the lesson title.  It also drafts the details of the Beatitudes by listing in detail what they are and where they can be found.  This is great for my 5 year old who understands more.

On the opposite side the artist, Jessica Blanchard, creates a visual aid that makes reciting and memorizing the Beatitudes easier for younger children.  This is done in such a way that keeps my 3 yr old engaged and eager to see the next page.

All the pages of this book are displayed with colorful art and detail that make it easy to enjoy.

All in all, this is a well crafted piece that helps create the foundation for biblical growth and understanding while our children are able to absorb so much information.  It lays out essential truths including the basic building blocks of knowing who God is, who Jesus is, and the fundamental elements of the Christian faith.

By using the pictures along with the language of the bill, it increases the opportunity for children to learn quickly inside a fun creative atmosphere.  This book also poses great moments after each lesson for questions to be asked and answered.

The Bible Basics book is built well in physical and spiritual regard.  It will be a good resource for both parent and child in any home or school book collection.

**Thank you to the Blythe Daniel Agency for allowing me and my boys to enjoy and review this book 🙂

Indiana Strongest Life Bill Has Been Filed

HB1134 Has Been Filed- Will Lawmakers Make Protecting The Unborn A Priority This Year?

Hoosiers for Life

That is the question of the year! In the months leading up to session, state leadership has not hesitated or been shy about telling us what they are focusing on this year in the 2017 legislative session.

The question is, what about what WE want the focus to be?

Each lawmaker represents thousands of conservative Hoosiers and outside of Indiana’s unborn, their voices are some of the most silenced in the state. The people of Indiana have watched for years the regulation of abortion, now is the time to do something more…now is the time to stop it once and for good, and state leadership says they want to focus on slowing down the smoking rate and raise taxes for road construction instead.

Really?

The session started yesterday and at 10am David Long announced his big agenda, and although he will tell you that it’s important to save the babies, he will not make it a priority this year.

Long said recently regarding Curt Nisly’s abortion bill… “Whether that has a chance of seeing daylight or not just depends on a lot of factors – the appetite of your caucus on whether you really want to talk about that,”

The appetite of the caucus??

When did their agenda become more important then our agenda?

What about the appetite of the people?

Why doesn’t dying Hoosier children create a hunger for liberty in the caucus?

When are the people going to start to matter again?

When are we going to say WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH?

This will all change when the people demand to be heard!

You can’t just assume that your Senator and your Representative is representing you well. Don’t just assume that they remember you when they are doing the people’s business. We have to keep them accountable and remind them how we feel about things.

Do you know where your lawmaker stands on the Protection at Conception Bill? Do they give you the rhetoric of how “all life is important but…. state agenda, taxes, not the right time, the Supreme Court isn’t ready…” Or do they stand firm for the unborn and say that they will stand?

There are about 8400+ Hoosier babies that will otherwise die to abortion if these men and women don’t stand up and do the right thing! This time they use their abilities to stop it. This time there are no more excuses. This time we will see who is really pro-life and who just says it during election campaigns.

Let the revealing begin!

Hoosiers for Life Protection at Conception Bill

An Indianapolis newspaper said this recently:House Speaker Brian Bosma repeatedly emphasizes that his caucus won’t be focused on the potential abortion bill.

“You know, no bills have been filed in the House yet so who even knows if it’s going to be filed? As I said earlier today, my focus is going to be on infrastructure, a responsible budget, pre-kindergarten, some public safety issues – this is where our time is going to be focused,” Bosma says. House and Senate Democratic leaders urged their GOP colleagues to avoid such hot-button issues. (wfyi news)

Indiana voters know exactly what is happening here.
No one in Indy is going to listen unless we are the loudest thing that they hear! Please support our efforts and join us in this fight! While one child is worth all our efforts, 8400+ should make us stop everything and race to be the rescue!

Together we can save Hoosiers Babies,

Pro-lifers help abortion agenda in Indiana

h4l-icon-01-3

Does a fetus have the right to live? This is the big question when dealing with policy on the life issue. If you stand with the pro-abort community you would obviously say no. If you stand with the pro-life community you would tend to say yes… or would you?
A trend that happens among pro-lifers is the addition of these words into their vocabulary, “I am pro-life with exceptions.”

Most agree on the conservative side of the fence that life has value, that every person has the right to live, and that abortion is the greatest offence towards an individual in the womb.
However, many actively standing with the preborn are also saying that they have exceptions for such things as rape, incest, health of the mother, etc.

Why is this a big deal?

In an article that I recently read by a pro-death advocate, I realized why this is not only a huge insult to the pro-life effort but also a way to advance our oppositions agenda. How could having exceptions for such emotional cases such as rape, be a promotion towards the abortion industry?

It’s simple, the abortion supporters love pro-lifers that have exceptions to their moral compass. These exceptions tells them that you are willing to negotiate the lives of certain children depending on their conception circumstances.

What may seem like a good solid stance for a life advocate, now tells the opposition that you can say you are “pro-life” but there is a pocket of compromises you are willing to use, if a child’s circumstances fits into that criteria.

The writer states, “By compromising their ‘right to life’ in order to accommodate a women’s rights, they inadvertently acknowledge that women’s rights are more important than the ‘right to life’ of the fetus.”

While having exceptions to your pro-life stance may seem like a good place to plant your feet, you in turn are increasing the efforts of abortion and forming a stronger platform for them to continue butchering babies on the pretense that it’s a women’s right.

They love people with exceptions.  She states, “They are our biggest advocates for abortion.”

If you are currently a pro-lifer, I encourage to take an all or nothing stance. No child’s life should be negotiated or compromised because of the circumstances involved in their conception. If we believe that every person has the right to live, then that means you cannot support the allowance of abortion in some instances.

Your compromise has to stop and you have to take a stronger stance against the killing of children in order to make a difference in the lives of the pre-born. If not, this writer feels you may as well crawl over the fence and stand on the side of the abortion advocates and hold a pro-choice sign.
In Indiana we have many who say they are pro-life and many who compromise. I encourage you to re-evaluate your point of view on this issue and find the strongest position you can possibly take, and then stand there.
Join efforts with Hoosiers for Life as we introduce the strongest piece of pro-life legislation to ever be presented to the Indiana legislature. We are posturing ourselves to advocate for Hoosier babies with no exceptions and no compromise.

The Scientism of Abortion

hoosiers-for-life_logo_clr

It’s obvious that the Hoosier state is not exempt from the catastrophic cost that is a direct result from Indiana abortions.

Last year the number hung steadily once again at over 8000 deaths. We have to often wonder how we got here and why many Hoosiers are not concerned about these dying people. A huge credit to our apathy can be given to something called, “perverted science.”

In 1940 Winston Churchill addressed the House of Commons giving responsibility to the heinous acts of Hitler’s regime to a term he called, “perverted science.” This is also more commonly known as Scientism. It is a term that describes the misuse of Science in order to do evil. It convinces the people of untruths.

True Science pursues truth wherever it leads, perverted science pursues what it wants in order to get the result that it desires, regardless if the truth gets snuffed out in the process.

We have been subjected to lies that has helped create the apathy in our state towards abortion. We owe it to our aborted Hoosiers to seek education and truth so that we can handle the issue correctly. The conversation that we are not having about the beginning of life has corrupted our view on the value of life.

Perverted science has told us that we have no precise facts on this topic. True Science tells us specific details that need to be considered when answering the question of when does life begin and when does it obtain value. Let’s take a look at the facts.

Fact 1: Science now says conception fulfills 4 criteria needed to establish biological life. They are metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli and reproduction. This evidence tells us that at the moment of fusion of human sperm & egg, a new entity comes into existence which is distinctly human, indeed alive, and an individual organism- A living, and fully human being.

Fact 2: In April of this year the Telegraph reported this quote, “Life begins in a bright flash of light as sperm meets the egg, scientists have shown for the first time, capturing the astonishing fireworks on film. An explosion of sparks erupts from the egg at the moment of conception.”

It was discovered and documented that at the very moment of conception a flash of light illuminates. The bright flash occurs when sperm enters an egg as it leads to a surge of calcium which then triggers the release of zinc from the egg. As the zinc shoots out, it binds to small molecules which emit a fluorescence light which can be picked up by camera microscopes.

Over the last six years a team from Northwestern University has shown that zinc controls the decision to grow and change into a completely new genetic organism.

Fact 3: A human heartbeat is another aspect to consider. Even though it does not say when life begins, it does convey that life has begun. It is an indicator of an existing life. A preborn human’s heart begins beating richly as early as 18 days after conception. That is well before an average pregnancy is determined to exist by over the counter urine test.

Fact 4: The analysis of human DNA is also something to be observed when determining when life begins and its value. It is a scientific fact that an organism exists after conception that did not exist before conception. This new organism has its own DNA distinct from both the mother and father. This new creation can only be human. Each creature can only reproduce its own kind. A dog only can reproduce a dog, a cat can only reproduce a cat…etc. Therefore what is living inside of the woman’s womb can only be human.

With the strong argument that at conception a new creation has been formed with all the criteria of new life, while also containing separate DNA and having the ability to grow and reproduce, makes the discussion clear. This new human has human cells, distinct human codes, human genes, and is playing the part of human reproduction. It can be nothing other than a living human from the distinct moment of conception.

It only concludes that abortion is the act of killing living humans and killing living humans is an act called murder.
Are Hoosiers comfortable with laws that allow the killing of humans?

We know that Science has proven and urged us to put an end to the killing of Hoosier babies, but we still allow great room for compromise.

If we have considered and contemplated the true evidence of life, we must see abortion for what it really is and finally put a stop to it.

Hoosiers for Life is promoting the strongest pro-life bill ever to be filed in Indiana this year.  We ask that you connect with us at http://www.facebook.com/hoosierbabies and also sign our petition here,  “Every individual has the Right to Live”

American Woman’s Bible Book Review

womens bible

As a nation, America is far above the rest.  Her incredible history wrapped around the borders of this great land is vastly outstanding and incomparable.  Fascinating stories of strong conviction, powerful heroism, and landmark adventures create and form a tale of legacy that cannot be denied.

Women and men alike have sacrificed their dreams, convenience, and even their lives and the lives of their loved ones in dedication to the, “Land of the Free,” with the aspirations and hope that it would become and remain a place of security and faith for generations to come.

The American Woman’s Bible intertwines God’s rich word with incredible tales of women’s involvement in the shaping and formation of such a beautiful country.  Women who could not suffice being a passive spectator, but rather had a deep sense of ownership for this land, and responded by dutiful action.

Women such as Prudence Wright and Sarah Shattuck, who led a group of women armed with only pitchforks to guard their village and their children, during the battles of Lexington and Concord.  They teach us about contagious bravery.  A women named Angelina who was deeply involved in the Abolitionist movement and didn’t avoid controversy as she spoke publicly to various social classes and to an audience of all races, during a time that it could cost her greatly.  She taught a 4-Tier approach to ending slavery: Read the Bible, Pray, Speak truth, and Act on your convictions.  Ann Hennis Bailey dressed as a man in order to ride as a regular scout for the army, she felt so greatly about her freedom that she masqueraded as a man in order to become a soldier.

These stories will change you.

It inspired my soul and revived a spirit of American patriotism while reading the bold stories of women who courageously fought for a country that today is wildly taken for granted.  It creates passion to the reader, to no longer be a spectator, but to actively engage in standing up for what is right and good.  Abigail Adams, wife of John Adams, said it best.  “We possess a spirit that will not be conquered.  If our men are all drawn off and we should be attacked, you would find a race of Amazons in America.”  They fought for what they believed in.  We should take direction and teaching from such beautiful noble individuals.

Thanks to the Blythe Daniel Agency, I have been given a copy of this book to offer in a give-away.  Their generosity will put this beautiful attribute of history into someone’s hands.  I will be drawing the winner next Wednesday, to enter you can sign up to subscribe to this site or share my status of the review from my Facebook page at  http://www.facebook.com/grief2grace

May you be encouraged and strengthened by this collection of stories and may you be blessed abundantly by the companionship of God’s Word.

Living life Loud

photo-1453738773917-9c3eff1db985

Something happened to me this year that I didn’t anticipate.

Some of my fear have been miraculously replaced with faith.

Not just faith; but a ferocious form of faith & boldness, that has me struggling to keep a tight reign on my tongue.

Sounds like a miracle to me 🙂

My holding back, being lazy, and blatant disobedience is wilting away.  In it’s place is a brassy boldness instead.  O, this could get me into a lot of trouble.  It actually has already proven itself to work best on a very tight leash!

It has me questioning, “Why Now?”
Why all of a sudden is it hard for me to keep my mouth shut tighter than usual?
“Why is worrying about offending others often kept me from defending what was right?”

Do you feel that way?
Why is it so hard to stand up for what you know is right?
Do you look around and see things that are disturbing, but your too afraid to say something because it may offend someone, or worse yet…make them angry?

A few weeks back I was in Walmart shopping with my family.  We had just left church and threw our communion cups in the trash.

I was in the girls department, rummaging through some items with my 10 yr old daughter, when I hear some loud profanity nearby.  I see a aggressive father threatening his wife and 2 small children with vulgar comments and body language that said he was looking for a fight.  He agitated them by leaning in and cussing.  They obviously was used to this kind of scene…but I wasn’t.

My Uterus trumps your God

pence1

Abortion activists are proudly sending Gov. Mike Pence coloring pages of genitalia.  What they think this may accomplish is still unclear.

Indiana is under some attack due to a new bill that attempts to stop abortion due to genetic diagnosis of the preborn baby.

LifeSite News writes yesterday, “Fuming, abortion activists also launched a series of juvenile campaigns to attack Pence and the pro-life legislators who supported the life-saving law. Ignoring that the purpose of the law is to protect unborn babies, abortion activists have been claiming the law is all about controlling women’s reproductive organs.

Periods for Pence, a campaign that encourages women to harass pro-life lawmakers with calls and messages about their menstrual cycles, came first. Now, Indiana abortion supporters are taking their crude efforts a step further with the “Color Your Junk for Mike Pence” campaign.

Last week, a small group met in Indianapolis to color coloring book pictures of male and female reproductive organs and write messages to the pro-life governor. The Facebook page advertised the event for “all ages.” The group organizers said they planned to hand deliver the coloring pages and a petition in protest of the law.”

Today on their FB page they posted a call to action:

I woke up this morning, and my peapod is pissed off! Let your fingers do the walking, and your vaginas do the talking! (I know, that makes no sense whatsoever, but all of you know what I mean.) Here’s a little jam to get you pumped for your midweek check-ins!
Pencey-poo: 317-232-4567
The Diva: 317-232-6807 ‪#‎freemaureen‬
Sister-wife: 317-232-9769
And, someone should really call and check on Casey Cox’s whereabouts. I’m worried. 317-232-9863

Some may find humor in this but Pro-lifers don’t find discrimination and death funny.

The Indiana law is the second in the nation to ban abortions based on genetic disabilities like Down syndrome.  The Indiana law also has several other abortion-related measures, including a requirement that aborted or miscarried babies’ bodies be cremated or buried and another requirement that abortionists who have hospital admitting privileges renew them annually.

The voice of the anti-life establishment tends to be louder at times but there is no doubt that Indiana is still a conservative pro-life state.  The majority of Hoosiers support pro-life bills and the agenda to stop abortion.  I encourage those that stand for life to call Gov Mike Pence and leave a message of support while he is under incredible pressure from the pro-death groups surrounding the statehouse.

Mistaken identity of Taylor University student

The Muncie Star Press ran a story today about a Taylor University student who had a unique case of mistaken identity, one that Hoosiers will never forget.  Ten years ago, a horrific crash killed five people and resulted in a case that became international news.

The Star reports, “The crash occurred on the evening of April 26, 2006, according to Fox59. Nine people were riding a Taylor University van on I-69, returning from Fort Wayne after setting up for a luncheon the following day. Just after 8 p.m., the van was a couple miles from the Marion exit at State Road 18 when a semi truck came across the median and struck the van. Investigators would later learn the driver of the semi, Robert Spencer, had fallen asleep at the wheel before running off the northbound roadway.

The crash killed Taylor University students Brad Larson, Laurel Erb, Betsy Smith, Laura Van Ryn, and university staff member Monica Felver.

In the chaos that followed, emergency workers at the scene of the crash mixed up the identities of Laura Van Ryn and Whitney Cerak. Cerak had survived the crash, but her face was covered by bandages due to a head injury. Van Ryn’s parents arrived at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, unaware that their daughter had died, and the injured and bandaged young woman in the hospital bed was actually Cerak. Meanwhile, Cerak’s family was told Whitney had been killed, even though she was alive and unconscious at the hospital.

The identity mix-up occurred when an emergency responder mistakenly clipped Van Ryn’s student ID to the injured Cerak. When Cerak’s family arrived at the hospital, they were told that no ID on the body was needed. Days later, about 1,400 Taylor University students attended the funeral and burial for Cerak. But it was actually the body of Van Ryn being laid to rest.

Taylor University President Eugene Habecker recalled visiting with Van Ryn’s parents, Don and Susie, at the hospital and praying for their daughter’s recovery.

“Her head was fully bandaged, and she of course was still unconscious,” Habecker said. “I asked Don if I could hold Laura’s hand and pray for her. We didn’t know it then, but I was actually holding Whitney’s hand.”

For several weeks, the world believed Cerak had died in the crash and Van Ryn had lived. But members of the Van Ryn family started to notice curious differences between their loved one and the injured young woman they were caring for. Five weeks after the crash, a therapist asked the young woman to write her name. She was able to spell out “Whitney.”

After mourning for five weeks, Whitney Cerak’s family were informed that Whitney was still alive. Laura Van Ryn’s family had to accept that Laura was gone.

Whitney’s sister, Carly later wrote:

“Soon after we saw Whitney, our family met with the Van Ryns and our joy for ourselves was pushed aside by the pain we felt for them. It is hard because our joy is their pain.”

After recovering from her injuries, Cerak returned and graduated from Taylor University a few years later. She married her longtime boyfriend, Matt Wheeler, and the couple have three children.”

Whitney Cerak (Wheeler) is expected to speak during another prayer service scheduled for Wednesday at Taylor University.  Her story was published in the book, Mistaken Identity.

If anyone knows the value of life, it would be Whitney Cerek.  As she states in her book, “I am the only person I know that has listened to her own funeral.”

Does Wendy Davis tell the truth?

wendy davis and her lies

The Headline insinuated that Notre Dame was promoting abortion, and it was a pretty truthful title as this Catholic school sponsored abortion activist, Wendy Davis, to come encourage her ideas with firm confidence.  The first paragraph of the www.lifesitenews article said this…

SOUTH BEND, Indiana, April 5, 2016 – “Prominent abortion activist and former Texas gubernatorial candidate, Wendy Davis, promoted abortion in a scheduled speech at Notre Dame Monday night, prompting criticism that the university had again betrayed its Catholic identity.”

Once again our higher education facilities have pushed aside Catholic values, Christian values, Conservative values.  Students have long said that being a conservative in a Christian College isn’t much different then paying the fees to go to a liberal campus.  This should be no surprise to us.

Indiana’s battleground is being prepared.  Dug outs are carved, supplies are being shipped in, ammo is divided up and being reproduced, artillery is in place, and the stage is being set for intense full-arm attacks.  Truth against lies.  Hate against love.  Life against death.  The soldiers are risking their lives, pledging an allegiance to something much greater then themselves, and armoring up.  They lace up their boots, climb into the hole….and wait.  Watching.  Each movement they sense, they are equipped to counter-attack.  Every breath they breathe is heard with intensity as they know that one wrong move, or the give-away of their position, could lose them the war.  They have their sight on the target.  They never waver, never give up, never quit.

It’s a fierce army.

The problem is…its not our army.

As the war-time strategies are laid out on the table and key players are walking around it planning attacks, the American Christians take a nap.  There is no need for a Trojan horse, they just open the doors to our cities and homes and say, “come on in.”

Come lie to us.  Come corrupt our children.  Come be our friends.

They throw our arms up in a full yawn & stretch with eyes half open, while they take away our faith, family, & freedom.

When sleepy Christian goes to church on Sunday, he slumps into the pew and watches the clock.  He is alive while he is dead.

The breath in his lungs may make him technically alive but it doesn’t guarantee that he is actually living.  Death is more then just leaving this earth, you can function here and be dead to your fellow people, country, and God at the same time.

Wendy Davis is just an example of a soldier in the trench.  She has an agenda and she preformed well.  Here are some of her comments from yesterday’s invited speech at Notre Dame.

Wendy says, “I was post-20 weeks of pregnancy of a much-wanted pregnancy that I had waited years to have, and … our very much-wanted child was suffering from a fatal fetal brain abnormality,” she said.  “What we were told was that if our child survived delivery, which she would likely not, that she would live a life of tremendous suffering — if she lived long at all — and we made a decision out of love.”

Human Life International responded to her comment by saying this, “Abortion of children because of their disabilities is “nothing more than eugenics, discrimination of the basest kind,  Even if a baby will die shortly after she is born, what is a more civilized response — to hold and love her in the short time she has on this earth, or cut her apart with a vacuum curettage machine?” HLI’s statement continued. “It is easy to love the perfect; but how much we are willing to give to the imperfect is the true measure of love.”

What happened to the natural instinct of motherhood?  Where did it go?

I know a beautiful girl named Violet, who parents were told that she was going to die shortly after birth.  The love of her mother and father spoke beautiful blessings over this girl while in the womb, and when she was born they held her close until she passed away.  Her parents grieved, everyone did, but nothing like they would have if Violet would have been dismembered piece by piece and thrown into the garbage.  Violet’s mother valued her.  Violet’s mother loved her.  Wendy lies when she says that her decision was made out of love, love doesn’t look like that.

Davis also used her appearance to describe Planned Parenthood as a substantial women’s healthcare provider, saying that abortion allowed her to get to where she was in life, where her mother and grandmother had not the opportunity.

The Notre Dame Gender Studies called Davis “a modern-day Texas heroine”

Her lies are not really the aspect of the battle that concerns me the most.  It is rather the reaction that came afterwards.  After she was done talking the students and staff gave her a standing ovation.

The church raised their hands and said, “tell me more…”

On the open grounds of confrontation, their army is mighty.  Their eye is on the prize.  On our side, there is a few of us, rugged and wore out; ready to fight to the end.  The situation is building, every single day there is word that it’s almost time for head to head combat.  The Church has two choices…Put your boots on and get dirty, or pull your pew up to the sidelines and watch your friends get slaughtered.

When we are down with the enemies boots on our neck, maybe then you will wake up from your nap and see what is happening around you.  Maybe then you will stand next to your brother and fight.

When the men come running over the hill carrying a flag, I hope and pray that it is ours.

Salvation While Sleeping

God loves us and gave His Son Jesus for us

I was sitting by the hospital bed moving his arm up and down, as the coma had caused lots of bed sores from non-movement.  We did daily exercises for his benefit, but also out of boredom.  Day in and day out, we walked across the channel connecting the hospital to the hotel.  My small family traveled back and forth to see him.  Our months were tirelessly spent in the visiting room and sitting next to dad.

As I moved his arm up, I thought I felt a slight hint of resistance.  Not too sure, I didn’t say anything at first.  Then I suddenly felt it again…now my heart was racing a bit.  We stood over him, after calling a nurse, checking all his vitals and preforming a, “reaction test” to see if he was responding.  The moment had finally came; he was waking up.

My dad & I were never exactly close.  He was an ex-Marine, and I was a mouthy teenager.  The two clashed terribly on a daily basis.  I often felt that he didn’t understand me, wasn’t fair, and plain and simple— didn’t love me.  I was excited that there might be a chance to tell him how much I loved him, now that he was waking up.

The man who opened his eyes was much different than the one who fell asleep.  It was a tragic battle each day for our tired family.  The day of my father’s terrible accident, my sister and I were also in a bad car wreck.  Dad worked in construction and was restoring the side of an old church downtown, when he lost his balance and fell three stories to the concrete below.  An hour later, my sister & I were a in bad collision, immobilizing our entire family in just a few short moments.

As my mom drove up to the scene, she must have realized that her whole life was under attack.  My father was being life-lined to a hospital, assumed not to survive, my sister and I were scared & injured—all within moments of each other. Our lives came to a pivotal moment in time that none of us will soon forget.

Now he was waking up. We were quickly learning what brain injuries entail.  He had to learn everything over again and as he did, it looked different than before.  It took years of recovery before he was functioning at his finest.  Learning to talk and walk were obviously vital to his treatment. Learning to count and color were necessities, and therapy proved itself to be a unique new world.  Back to the basics was the theme, starting over, raising a “child-like” man was no walk in the park for any of us, especially my mother.

Our family didn’t pray or know Jesus at the time.  We didn’t know how to call on Him for our needs, we didn’t read scripture or worship in any capacity and we never tagged our requests to a living God. Everything was just fate and circumstance.

Dad was an atheist, professed to be a non-believer in every fashion.  There was a Bible in the house, but he only read it to prove it wrong.  Many times, he would meet with my Uncle, a Baptist Pastor, and dispute the scriptures.  Many times, Dad would drive home feeling like he won the debate.  He loved words and poetry, and to him that is what the Bible was—a fancy book full of fancy words that tried to convince people of a central topic.

As he woke from his coma, one of the first things we noticed was he started talking about Jesus and scripture. The very things he had studied to disprove, became truth embedded deep into the heart of his entire being, while he was asleep.  His physical strength increased as did His spiritual strength.  There was never a moment when he remembered not knowing and loving God.  The Lord became personal to him, and they were solid friends for many years.

My dad fell asleep as a non-believer.

But, he woke up a follower of Christ.

Please take a moment for that to sink in.  He lay asleep…a dead man, and woke up as a living testimony of God’s mercy.

This series of events led to the conversion on many people, including myself.  When my dad passed away from this life, it was hard to be upset.

As a father, he taught me how to pray and he also was an example to me of how intentional and passionate God’s love for us is.  He was a witness that the Lord will pursue the heart of men even if it takes trial and tragedy to capture their heart.

As Jesus rolls the stone away from the impossible, inside the heart of a tomb is hope and redemption.  If He cares enough to allow circumstance as ugly as deep pain in order to reveal to you His compassionate gift of eternity, then nothing and no one is outside the grace of God’s love.

I hope you enjoy the story of my Dad’s conversion.  There were times in my life that I questioned why a loving God would allow such hurt to come into our lives.  Then one day I watched my Dad, the same man who raised me to not love God, submit to the Creator of the universe.  I saw him raise his hands and worship, with no reservation, a God who rescued him while the world waited on him to die…and then I knew…

We serve a God who will do whatever it takes to show you absolute abundant love.
